Manuella Blackburn on a Research residency at Kunitachi College of Music, Tokyo




Manuella Blackburn (PhD student at NOVARS Research Centre, Manchester, UK) is currently in Tokyo, Japan for a two-week residency at Kunitachi College of music. http://www.kunitachi.ac.jp/

The aim of the residency is to make recordings of traditional Japanese instruments belonging to the college’s instrument collection which will be used in a new multi-channel work. These instruments include:
hiratsuri-daiko
okedou-daiko
shime-daiko
byouuchi-daiko
wadaiko
kotudumi
koto
syamisen
syakuhachi

Manuella will be taking part in composition seminars where she will present her research and also diffuse her acousmatic work ‘Origami’ in the Sonic Interaction concert on 27th November with the students from the Sonology department at Kunitachi.

This research project was coordinated by Dr Takayuki Rai (Lancaster University) and is supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) overseas field work grant.
