NEW MUSIC NORTH WEST FESTIVAL. 23-27 November 2009
Showcasing the wealth of creative musical talent in the North West, the University of Manchester is collaborating with the musical might of the BBC Philharmonic, The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Psappha, Salford University and the RNCM to put on over 15 concerts featuring music by over 40 composers from the North-West region, including a significant number of composers at the University of Manchester.
As usual, Vaganza - our vibrant new music ensemble - plays an important part in this festival. Vaganza celebrates distinguished composer Peter Maxwell Davies’s agreeing to become Patron of the Manchester University Music Society by giving a special concert of student compositions in his presence at 3pm on Thursday 26 November in the Cosmo Rodewald Concert Hall, followed at 4.15pm in the John Casken Theatre with an opportunity to hear Peter Maxwell Davies in conversation. Our contribution to the festival culminates with a performance by Vaganza and Ad Solem (the university’s chamber choir) of Max’s rarely performed early masterpiece, Ecce Manus Tradentis on 26 November at 7.30pm in the RNCM Concert Hall.
