The aim of this symposium is to bring together University of Manchester staff members working in various aspects of Screen Studies, and to foster a dialogue reflecting on the history and present of Screen Studies at Manchester, as well as to consider possible future trajectories.
This half-day symposium will take place as a round table, and hear from speakers across the range of screen studies at SAHC, SLLC and SoSS, including panels on the staff and student experience, screen practice, interdisciplinary screen initiatives, and television and new media studies.
Key areas for discussion will include:
- Providing an overview of Screen Studies at Manchester in terms of its recent history and future directions
- Creating a sense of identity for Screen Studies at Manchester, in order to address the sometimes fragmented staff and student experiences of Screen Studies at Manchester
- Identifying and promoting potential future collaborations between colleagues working in different areas in Screen Studies
- Identifying differences and similarities in terms of the role and scope of Screen Practice, and Practice as Research at Manchester
- Beginning to explore a collective strategic response to any possible forthcoming Faculty initiatives regarding Screen Studies at Manchester.
